Is the PCI-X standard used in the new G5s POWERCORE Compatible? Question I'm planning to buy an Apple PowerMac G5 and wonder if my POWERCORE PCI will support the new PCI-X standard used in the new G5s? Answer Updated Answer: September 11, 2003Yes, in the Apple PowerMac G5 desktops that we have tested, we have been able to run multiple POWERCORE PCI devices via the PCI-X slots. Original Answer: July 15, 2003 According to the PCI-Sig, the group responsible for creating and maintaining the PCI specification, PCI-X is 100% compatible with existing PCI cards as long as the PCI card meets PCI 2.1 or later. POWERCORE PCI meets this requirement. If the Apple G5 conforms to the PCI X specification, as they no doubt will, there will be no problem running (and fitting) Powercore PCI in an Apple G5 desktop.
